Riding for a Reason 2023

Wheels on Fire

Join me in my efforts to support the

Alpha-1 Foundation!

This cause is very important to me. Your donation will help support the great programs and research conducted to find a cure for Alpha-1. Your contribution is greatly appreciated.

My story begins in 1991 at the age of 36, when I was diagnosed with being a ZZ Alpha. I got involved right away by going to support groups, and conferences. In 1995 I was put on 0xygen 24/7, that did not get me down, I then started a support group in my area. 1997 I was put on the lung transplant list. 11-22-2001 I received a left lung transplant. In 2002 I did my first transplant games, competing in biking, then my husband and I started doing the bike rides in Cape Cod, Ma. for the Escape to the Cape for a three day long bike ride with the American Lung Ass. to raise money and awareness. 2005 I went to work for LifeSouth Community Blood Center in Gainesville, Fl. after being so sick that I could not work for 10 years. I have been involed in a lot of fundraisers, for one reason to find a cure for Alpha1, I do not want my kids, grandkids, and my great-grandkids to go through what I have.

2017 I started having issues, my native lung(right lung) was expanding and squishing my transplanted lung. 11-28-2018 they transplanted my right lung, I am like the energizer bunny, I plan to keep on going!  In 2021 I started work s an AlphaNet Coordinator.  Alpha's helping Alpha's is our motto.

My husband (Tony) and I are going this year to  Cape Cod, Ma. to ride, It is a 2-day bike ride 9/23-9/24/2023 to help raise money for a cure, and to raise awareness! Please help by donating anything you can. Together we can find a cure!
